In March two years ago a very heartless and thoughtless person pulled into our driveway. Volunteers were all in buildings - whether they could not find someone, changed their minds, or had bad intentions, we are not sure, but when one of the volunteers came to the driveway, she found
I brought him home to love him - my husband and I could not come to terms with the idea that this very personable, intelligent animal who was so proud would not be the animal he had been. So, we worked with him, prayed for him and I began to do research on spinal injury treatment.
That is how I discovered Dr. Anders. I made an appointment for Stanley, who by then was learning to drag himself around inside, but so missed the life he had. It broke my heart to watch him. He was only two years old, a magnificent animal and so wanted to have his life back.
Dr. Anders met with Stanley, the volunteer who found him, and I. It was such an awesome experience watching Doc work on him. He manipulated his spine, he injected his muscles, and he cared for him with such a gentleness and calmness that Stan interacted and watched everything he did.
We took him home, did the exercises Doc suggested and put him in a tub of warm water daily and manipulated his atrophied muscles. He began to try to walk, and within weeks he was walking, gingerly at first, but getting stronger every day.
He has his life back. He sees Doc every 6 months or so for adjustments, caused because he is so interactive and busy - he is back visiting the kitties in the shelter, guarding the shelter, and enjoying his life, though not climbing on cars or jumping as high as he used to. But, he climbs, he still hunts successfully if he is so inclined, he follows us all over the 5 acres, he greets and visits and works every day.
We are so grateful to Doctor Anders for giving
SART is his life, and he is so proud to be working with us again. SART has 330 kitties and many volunteers help every day to care for each and every one of our cageless residents who live in
comfortable buildings set up like homes. It is a lot of work each day for everyone, and Stan is proud that he can do his fair share every day.
